We Can Relate: The Playlist
Sara Marlowe Blog
Neuroscience, Relationship, Couple Therapy Blog

I love music.
I love my work as a relationship-focused therapist.
I love learning about neuroscience, attachment and the science of emotions.
This ‘playlist’ brings these passions together, sharing my latest explorations in these areas with you through music. Each post will feature a song, as a medium to explore aspects of relating well – to others and to ourselves. I hope you will find this blog to be informative and supportive in your endeavour to cultivate the relationships you want in your life.
I will reference some of my favourite thinkers and practitioners, (whom will be cited accordingly). These include, but are not limited to, Stan Tatkin, Diane Poole Heller, Rick Hanson, the EFT community, Christopher Germer & Kristin Neff, and John & Julie Gottman, to name but a few. This blog will, at times, include my interpretation of their teachings and I humbly apologize when I don’t get it spot on.
Disclaimer: A beautiful aspect of music is how it moves us – as if it were written just for us – speaking exactly to what’s happening in this moment in our lives. My interpretation of the songs in this playlist are based on how they moved me – and may have no relation to the musician’s intended meaning or to other’s interpretations. But that’s OK. Let the songs just sing to you, as they sang to me. Got an idea for a great song to add to the playlist? I’d love to hear from you!

Connected by the Stereo MCs
The Key to a Good Life: Good Relationships Back in 1992 The Stereo MCs sang, “Hear me out. Terrified. Something ain’t right.I’m gonna get myself, gonna get myself, gonna get myself connected.”They sure were on to something. EPIDEMIC OF LONELINESS Fast forward to 2024, “the shadow of loneliness and disconnection haunts our modern ‘connected’ world,”

Come Talk To Me by Peter Gabriel
Come Talk to Me by Peter Gabriel Why is it so Hard to Talk to my Partner? “Can you show me how you feel now? Come on, come talk to me,” sings Peter Gabriel. And yet, so often, we don’t. Or when we do, it feels lousy. Why is that? Communication difficulties are the most
